Youth Initiative: Grooming Young Leaders through Civic Leadership School

imageThe graduates of the 22nd Batch of the Civic Leadership School unanimously declared that the school run by Youth Initiative has been most productive of all the trainings and has been a true platform for grooming young leaders. The five days residential school of Youth Initiative started from April 21- 25, 2010 Wednesday through Sunday with 28 young leaders representing as diverse fields as Defense, Security, Lawyers, Youth Politics, Human Rights Activists, Music, Documentary Maker, Journalists, Lecturer, Entrepreneur, Sports, Modeling, Medical, Engineering, Agriculture  Consultant and Bureaucracy.

imageYouth Initiative's Civic Leadership School (CLS) is an intensive 5 day residential civic leadership programs for emerging Nepali youth leaders. The CLS fellows will go through a series of outdoor and indoor activities that challenges their physical and intellectual comfort zones. They will explore the complex challenges that affect their lives and communities today, and are introduced to the tools and strategies for their leadership development and civic engagement and also build network with fellow youth leaders to meet the demands of the present times. 

The five days residential program is aimed at generating young leaders from across dividing lines build up their leadership, communication and networking skills and sensitizes them of the national civic issues of the country. The sessions of the program were delivered by eminent personalities like Anil Chitrakar, Bhimajun Acharya, Taranath Dahal and Tirtha Poudel on topics like Civic Engagement and Youth, Constitution Making process, Democracy through Right To Information and Setting Vision respectively.

imageThe young people not only learned from speakers but also widened their knowledge about diverse fields from their peers. Himadri Palikhe, a participant shares her experience as "I thought that young people participation in politics was less but after interacting with young leaders from political youth organizations, I not only increased my knowledge about politics but also understood why I should take account f politics". For Jyoti Raj Rai, student leader the School has prepared to overcome my personal fear and discovering my true potential. 

This school is recommended for all young leaders". An entrepreneur by profession Bijay Ranabhat felt that the learning of the school has been positive for all the participants from building confidence to overcoming fear to awareness about civic issues. "For me personally I am now all the more motivated to contribute to society".  Churamani Panthi , section Officer said that after this school he is more confident of the potentials that Nepal has and also the school is recommended for all in the bureaucracy.
