Together against Corruption

| More

29 May 2010, Brussels

We are poor because we have corruption...

imgCorruption affects you and me. It ruins individual lives affects entire communities. We need to stand together, to step up and make our voices heard.

Mr. Narayan Adhikari, Our Executive Director, participate in the Global Youth Anti Corruption Forum held in Belgium Brussels from 26-28 may 2010.

The Global Youth Anti-Corruption Forum brings together 50 young civil society leaders, musicians, and journalists from around the World to exchange their experiences and formulate action plans to fight corruption in their countries.
This youth events aims at strengthening the Global Youth Anti-Corruption network (GYAC) by engaging emerging leaders, many of whom come from Fragile States, in the dialogue to build stronger social accountability mechanisms.

The forum uses music and ICT as two innovative approaches that are appealing to young people and that have proven to be effective tools for outreach and social monitoring. The strong IT expertise of young activists can help advocates for good governance to be more effective in the fight against corruption. And music can help break the taboo on corruption that still persists in many countries. For this event several songs addressing corruption challenges have been produced by musicians coming from countries such as Malawi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Columbia.

imgA task force among the representing continent had formed. Mr. Adhikari has appointed as task form member from South Asia region. The task force is one the key element to take network forward.

The forum was really useful to learn various innovative tools and practices to fight corruption in the country.

During the event, various video conferences among different countries took place. Youth from Nepal, Phillipines, Mecedonia, Siralion, USA etc played important role to share their success stories with participants from other countries.

After returning Nepal, Mr Adhikari realized the urgent need to take appropriate action to fight against corruption In Nepal. He has put forward the idea of forming National Youth Anti Corruption Network in Nepal.

Use of traditional as well as modern technology, arts and music could be one of the best tool to engage youth to work collectively and proactively in the fight against corruption in Nepal. He is also enthusiastic to build a strong network among countries in South Asia and ties them up with other part of the world.
