Addressing Youth Agendas in Local Level

9 Jan 2012, around 30 young people gathered in Ghorahi, Dang to have a discussion and dialogue on local issues of young people. It was an opportunity for youth to come together and work out together on common issues and concerns.

Among participants, Mr. Madan Kumar Sharma, President of Youth Park, a local NGO shared his views and added that Village Development Committee,(VDC) Municipality and District Development Committee(DDC) are not still paying attention for Youth's agendas. He added Youths are only used in different political and social changes but dignity is not given to them. During the discussion, all the participants were divided into five different groups who identified issues as well as came up with solutions. The group firmly expressed their interest to get involved in local governance like DDC and VDC and demanded that youth participation is imperative for the development of a community.

Participants also shared that no matter which political party we belong, young people need to come together on common agenda such as education, employment opportunities etc. Unity among youth would help drag the attention of local government and political party. The discussion was moderated by Strategic Location Coordinator Mr.Giriraj Adhikari.
