Samrat Katwal
Samrat
Katwal, 21 years, was born in Charpane, Jhapa. He completed
his high school from St. Xavier’s School in Sikkim.
Currently, he is doing his Bachelor in Development Studies
at Centre for Development Studies at National College, Kathmandu.
The reason he chose this subject is to be familiar with the
real development scenario of this country and to contribute
in the development process of not only Nepal but also all
other developing countries in the future. Development Studies
for him is to understand why this country has not been able
to compete with other nations despite being rich in terms
of natural resources.
Besides his studies, he works as a volunteer for Environment
Department, Community Mobilization Unit at Kathmandu Metropolitan
City. His task there is to look after nature clubs in schools
and to guide the young kids to manage their eco-clubs. The
other activity he is involved is Rotoract Club of Kathmandu
Metro where he serves as the Secretary of the Club.
Samrat's aim in life is to excel in academic qualification.
He also long to become a Development expert and assist in
solving the problems faced by Nepal in its development process.
His special interest is to bring about economic importance
of the youth. He believes that once youths are economically
independent and can solve all their wants by themselves, they
will become more responsible citizens and hence contribute
to bring about positive change in the society. His greatest
achievement in life is that he considers himself to be a responsible
youth who takes keen interest for the development of Nepal.

Surya Prakash Gurung
Surya
Prakash Gurung, 27 years, is from Pokhara. He did his schooling
from a government school in Pokhara. Having come from a community
that doesn't put emphasis on education, there was tremendous
family (community) pressure to give up his education and join
the British Army or head for abroad work. But he was determined
to his singular pursuit of higher education and was successful
in completing his Masters (MSc) in Chemistry from Tribhuwan
University.
Currently, he is teaching at the School of Pharmaceutical
and Biomedical Sciences, Pokhara University. Teaching is a
respected profession, yet his members and relatives still
persuade his to go abroad to earn 'more' money. This is one
temptation he has been resisting since school.
He thinks his school years were wasted because they had hardly
any opportunities for intellectual growth and this has been
constantly haunting him. He feels that the younger generation
of youths should not go through the similar experience. So
his efforts of late has been to explore the possibilities
of providing today's with youths forums for intellectual growth.
This has led to him establihsing YOUTH FOR CHANGE, NEPAL,
a youth organization for youth empowerment. Through this organisation
he aims to help empower the youth.
